Background of Disc Golf, Tags, and "Fun & Funky Tags"

Disc golf has its roots in the simple act of tossing a frisbee, and people have been throwing frisbees around for fun since the 1940s. In the 1970's the idea of using frisbees as golf discs really took off.

The sport is played much like golf, but instead of a ball and clubs, players use a flying disc (like a Frisbee but designed for disc golf).

It was formalized in the late 1970's and now there are more than 15,000 courses worldwide, attracting players of all ages for recreational play and professional tournaments.

You can see the distinctive Disc Golf Basket (the 'hole') in the picture above.

Throw the disc into the chains and the momentum stops, and the disc falls into the basket/goal. Like golf, there are typically 18 holes per round.

There are a wide variety of types and styles of discs, including drivers, mid-range discs, and putters. The Professional Disc Golf Association (PDGA), created in 1976,standardizes the rules, equipment, player rating systems, etc. and there are thousands of tournaments sanctioned every year, including World Championships.

"Tag Matches" have become a standard of local disc golf clubs around the country. A local organization or disc golf club will create a set of sequentially numbered tags, which can be 'sold' for a charitable event or used as a form of club competition throughout the season. At a tag event, each player will put their tag into the pot.

The round will be played, and then at the conclusion of the round the tags are awarded according to the score (lowest score gets the lowest # tag). For example, it is a matter of great pride to come into the round with the Number # 32 tag, and leave with the #7 tag, because you played well!

Tags are a form of friendly competition for many local disc golf clubs and are well known throughout the disc golf community. These tags reflect the name of each organization or group and are clipped onto a disc golfer's bag.

Our game, "Fun and Funky Tags - disc golf game", is a completely new and different game that players can enjoy while playing their usual round of disc golf (even if they are playing a traditional 'tags round').

Each of our "Fun & Funky Tags" tracks an event or occurrence throughout the round in a humorous and entertaining way, by awarding individual tags derived from those events (such as hitting a tree, going into the water, or making a long putt). It is separate and distinct from a player's score, which is the basis of a traditional tag game. Our tags employ funny characters and tournament-like special events, personified on our tags, that are passed from player-to-player as the round progresses. Game play and a players' final score for the round are not affected by our "Fun & Funky Tags". There is a separate "Tags Score" at the end of the round. A new round of "Fun & Funky Tags" can be played each round and players of all skill levels can be competitive with each other and play together - adding a new dimension of fun and excitement to the game.
